On Saturday 9th June, from 12pm-6pm, the secret garden at The Avalon will feature a secret Hayman's Gin door, with a hidden gin hatch...
The rumours surrounding Old Tom Gin- and the reason for its name - are mired in Victorian superstition and intrigue. Hayman's Gin, who brought back the original Old Tom Gin, have installed a secret doorway in the secret garden at The Avalon, which will pique the interest of any gin lover.
Hidden behind the secret door (complete with a cat's head for a door knocker, as the black cat became synonymous with Old Tom Gin) lies Hayman's classic Old Tom Gin - the gin that sparked the original cocktail boom. To get your hands on a sample, all you have to do is sharply knock the black Tomcat head's door knocker, and your treats will be delivered...
Just because it's World Gin Day, in addition to this a gin bell will be run on the hour, every hour, with free gin-based prizes available on a first come first served basis. Suitably mysterious for Old Tom and his black cat, we like to think.
